  • Smart grids – a smart idea?
With the EU’s goal of 20% renewable energy by 2020, and the UK government’s plan to roll out smart meters to all domestic customers by the same time, the way has been paved for smart grids. Global energy consumption is set to triple by 2050, and power networks need to transform into intelligent systems that will save energy, accommodate increasing amounts of renewable energy, and ensure supply security.
  • How to handle defective PV cells and wafers
It is important from a cost standpoint to check the quality of incoming wafers and cells before they reach the production process. For example, reducing the occurrence of micro cracks, which cause wafer and cell breakage during production can save money. Michael van Dooren, of test equipment manufacturer RUV Systems, explains.

Webinar: Solar PV cell analysis - date tba

09 September 2009

Renewable Energy Focus, in association with PerkinElmer, is organising a free, 1 hour webinar (exact date tba), examining how analysis/testing solutions and equipment can ensure quality and detect areas of improvement needed for solar cell development.

The webinar will highlight some areas of PV cell development where analysis with measurement/testing devices is especially relevant and helpful – such as reflectance, haze, and emissivity. It will also highlight some case studies where measuring equipment is key to the development process.
