wpd secures Canadian wind turbine contract

The 5.4 MW wind farm in Canada has been bought through a feed-in tariff contract.

By Isabella Kaminski

Renewable energy operator and developer wpd has won a feed-in contract for the Napier wind farm run by the Energy Agency in Ontario, Canada. The contract secures the purchase of the expected net capacity of 5.4 MW from the wind farm project as well as guaranteed minimum remuneration for 20 years.

Dr Hartmut Brösamle, CEO of wpd, says: “We appreciate our further success in Canada. In view of the bottleneck in net capacity in Ontario, this contract is a central stepping stone for us. Now, we will start the further approval proceedings like environmental licences and building permits.”

wpd is also in the planning stages of another 6 wind projects in Canada totalling 110 MW.

Arvid Hesse, Canada Manager for wpd, says: “We are certain that we can begin the construction of the first project at the end of 2012 and that we will operate all of the 110 MW until the end of 2014.”
