BC, Scandinavian hydrogen highways join forces
VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA, May 10, 2007. British Columbia’s Hydrogen Highway has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Scandinavian Hydrogen Highway Partnership formalizing their intent to collaborate on development of “hydrogen highways” in BC and Scandinavia. The agreement came out of meetings at the recent Hydrogen & Fuel Cells 2007 conference in Vancouver.
The MOU links the two projects’ participants in jointly addressing common barriers to commercial deployment of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. Their objectives include: supporting the development of codes & standards that encourage the introduction of these technologies; sharing experience and best practices related to hydrogen station installations and vehicle operations; coordinating product specifications; increasing public awareness; and encouraging collaboration in the application of new products.
The BC Hydrogen Highway is a coordinated demonstration, deployment and market development program comprising industry and government leaders. Its purpose is to enable participants to evaluate, improve and refine the performance of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies in conjunction with early adopter organizations, and in so doing, advance commercialization objectives.
The Scandinavian Hydrogen Highway Partnership comprises the national hydrogen highway networks of Norway (HyNor), Sweden (Hyfuture), and Denmark (Hydrogen Link). It aims to make the Scandinavian region one of the first regions in Europe where hydrogen is commercially available and used in a network of refueling stations.
