Reed Exhibitions and renewable energy focus team up to launch event

Renewable Energy Focus Expo to serve the growing alternative energy market

Norwalk, Conn, 6 December 2007. Reed Exhibitions and its sister publishing division, Elsevier, have joined together to launch Renewable Energy Focus Conference & Expo - 5-6 November 2008 - at the Jacob Javits Center in New York.

With increasing national and international pressure to decrease dependence on fossil fuels, Renewable Energy Focus Expo will focus on three progressive areas of the market: Wind; Solar (PV, Solar Thermal and CSP) and Biofuels.

Companies that manufacture products and provide related services for the renewable energy sector will be exhibitors to the event. These include:

• Solar power products and services such as PV cell and module manufacturers, inverter and other component manufacturers, integrators, dealers and installers;
• Windpower products and services such as wind turbines and related components;
• Biofuels - including first and second generation biofuels.

Industry professionals who will be in attendance include renewable energy consultants; public and private utility professionals such as engineering management, design and systems, operations; chief executives and owners; investments and finance professionals; policy makers and regulators at the local, state and federal levels; legal professionals; dealers and installers; and large-scale green building contractors.

According to Elsevier publisher Laurence Zipson, the strides that the renewables industry has made in recent years is phenomenal, as evidenced by the massive uptake in interest in renewable energy focus magazine (which until recently was known as reFOCUS magazine).

"The industry is truly coming of age, and since we first published the magazine 7 years ago there have been major changes in this industry," Zipson said. "As we have seen many times in this industry, keeping informed and on top of developments is essential, and we intend to use the magazine's global reach and reputation to reach those people that matter in the industry - we want to get them together in New York, and make this a formidable event that will complement the other top events in the calendar."

And the response from manufacturers and the industry since the launch of the event has been "incredible", according to the organisers. "It is truly time for the U.S. – with or without federal incentives - to drive our energy consumption from fossil fuels to more sustainable options", said John McGeary, vice president. "We are creating a worldwide forum for renewable energy companies to share and educate corporations, governments and utilities about the new options that clearly set the stage for responsible energy usage now and in the future. As the event is in the financial hub of the world – New York - the event will be a forum for the investment community, as well."

In addition to the exhibition, Renewable Energy Focus Expo will offer a comprehensive education program designed to explore trends and opportunities in alternative fuels and renewable energy sources. Taught by today’s leading experts, the program will advance acceptance, understanding and implementation of alternative energy sources.

In 2006, global investment in sustainable energy reached US$70.9 billion, an increase of 43% from 2005, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers. Market revenues for the four benchmark technologies (solar PV, wind, biofuels, and fuel cells) are forecast to increase to US$226 billion by 2016.
"We believe that this new event will raise awareness of this fertile marketplace," said McGeary, "and offer practical and eco-friendly solutions to major energy users. We are seeing good response from the sector and will be announcing our strategic alliances in the weeks to come."
