Who attended the conference?
The event, held on 19-20 September in Rio de Janeiro, included live video feed speeches and Q&A sessions with Maurice Strong, Secretary General of the Rio Earth Summit, and Fernando Henrique Cardoso, former President of Brazil.
Representatives from the financial sector included international banks, Fortis, Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse, development banks, including the World Bank and Japan Bank for International Co-operation, alongside local banks, the Brazilian Central Bank, Banco de Amazonia and Banco ABN AMRO Real.
From the political side, attendees included Luiz Felipe Lampreia, Former Foreign Minister of Brazil, representatives from the Indonesian Environment Ministry, Tasso Azevedo, the Forestry Director of the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment, Virgilio Viana, Secretary of the Environment for the State of Amazonas and Juan Rafael Elvira Quesada, Mexican Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources.
UN representatives included Hans Jurgen Stehr, Chairman for the CDM Executive Board, Martin Enderlin, CDM Issuance and Accreditation Team expert, Gylvan Meira, the Vice Chairman of the IPCC and Christine Zumkeller, Former acting co-ordinator for the UNFCCC CO-operative Mechanisms.
NGOs who presented their perspective included FBDS, the Brazilian Foundation for Sustainable Development, WWF Brasil, the Round Table for Sustainable Development of OECD, Friends of the Earth, National Institute for Research in the Amazon, The Nature Conservancy and the Forest Stewardship Council.
Industry was represented by Petrobras, Virgin Fuels, Previ, Grupo Votarantim and Camargo Correia.
